This Christmas, YUM CHA is bringing festive cheer to the dim sum experience with four dishes created to celebrate popular Christmas motifs such as polar bears and Christmas trees. These yuletide creations are available as à la carte dishes from HKD$38 or as part of a limited edition Christmas tasting box for HKD$68, featuring a choice of three. Available for the month of December in the Causeway Bay, Mong Kok, Central and Tsim Sha Tsui restaurants.
Traditional lotus seed buns are transformed into the shape of little gingerbread men (HK$38 for 2). These cute bite-sized soft, doughy baos are filled with a pickled ginger and lotus seed paste and topped with little buttons and eyes.
Another savoury option, artistically presented in the shape of a Christmas tree, is the Broccoli Salad with Mashed Potato (HK$89). A tower of home-made mash with broccoli florets atop and decorated with pomegranate seeds and mayonnaise to look like tinsel and baubles, along with a bright orange carrot star and served with red and yellow cherry tomatoes around the base of the ‘tree’ for colourful cheer.
Sweet treats come in the form of Polar Bear Custard Buns (HK$38 for 2), warm custard bao molded into white polar bears with tiny grey noses. A favourite on every Dim Sum cart, these steamed custard buns are an ideal wintery treat to warm the soul.
Lastly, miniature Cantonese sponge cakes (or Ma Lai Go) which are traditionally fluffy brown sugar cakes steamed in bamboo baskets and served warm and fresh get a Christmas twist in the form of the Reindeer Cupcakes (HK$38 for 2), with little Rudolf noses and reindeer antlers made from red icing and crunchy pretzels.
