Hong Kong Food News & Reviews

It's hot, and you're probably craving something light and wholesome for lunch. The whole city surely agrees, because there are no shortage of new healthy eateries popping up around town. We've rounded up five of our favourites that won't break the bank. You're welcome!

From the people behind Sohofama comes SUPAFOOD, a themed takeout joint ready to serve you healthy food options – and with super affordable price tags too. Superhero references aside, we were very happy with both the serving size and loved the taste of their organic curry beef sandwich and powerballs. For carb lovers and calorie counters, take a jab at their healthy rice bowls or under-400-calories salad rice bowls!

They started out as a lunchbox option online, but GYMBOX recently took up a spot round the corner from SUPAFOOD. Perfect for gym rats and health-conscious eaters, they provides “freshly-made and all natural” protein-rich meals in a box. For just $68HKD, you’ll get plenty of quinoa, a choice of veggie, plus a healthy helping of sole fillet or chicken breast. Wash it all down with their shop-exclusive GYMCHA, a fat-burning ruby mint tea.

Love bread? Knead is your obvious choice. Their concept is simple – fresh sandwiches and salads. But what separates them from say, Subway, is their array of fillings and artisanal bread. Take your pick of quinoa & grains, Turkish, gluen-free or more, and stuff it up with braised beef brisket, roast beef, smoked mackerel and the like. You can also add on sides like roasted pumpkin, beetroot, grilled veggies, Gouda or hummus. Sandwiches start from $55HKD for a main and two sides – which is a steal!

HOME Eat to Live

Vegans, vegetarians and veggie lovers, you can now migrate from the constant queue at Mana to the bigger menu and space at HOME Eat to Live. Co-created by the guy behind Mana, you’ll find familiarity here with their wraps, or as they call it, flat bread. If you’re craving for something hearty, try one of their noodle bowls or burgers. P.S. beware of confusion caused by their dishes named after endangered animals! P.P.S. Highly recommend their Nourish shake a.k.a. healthy ice-cream in a cup.
