It’s not just the ladies that needs the pampering. The lads in town also needs a shave, some grooming, or even a cocktail or two to help them look the best at all times! But save from the Shanghainese traditional shaving shops tucked in hidden alleyways, there are actually quite a few barbershops that’s at the heart of the business district. Check out their services and specialties below the cut!
The Barber Shop
1/F, 15B Wellington Street, Central
(852) 2637 4292
Opened since 1996, The Barber Shop may just be one of the oldest barbershops here in the ‘Kong. When you’re handing over your personal grooming, it’s a sure thing you want to be in good hands. And that’s why we were happy to hear that only experienced stylists will be serving the customers, rather than trainees or newbies! Whether you’re just getting a trim or a full-on colour and cut, both the ladies and gents are sure to love the old style décor and expert services.
G/F, 36 Pottinger Street, Central
(852) 2577 3080
Smack in the heart of Central (right across from Boujis), Erabarbers no doubt has the coolest décor and the baddest attitude in the best way possible. Almost like a blast from the past, they are all about the bikers and Rockabilly vibe. If you’re a lover of slick ‘dos and rad beards, this is the place you don’t want to miss.
43-49 Wellington Street, Sun Lee Building, Central
(852) 2525 2455
More than just a place for you to get a haircut or face shaved, Gentlemen’s Tonic is your go-to for everything about personal grooming. Not only do they have online grooming guides, you can also purchase their in-house collection of toiletries, razors and even brushes! Not to mention the boys’ version of pampering heaven – including all things hair-related, facials, nails and massages. Our personal favourite though, is The Hemingway, which entails a Bloody Mary, aromatherapy facial and massage for après “a heavy night of drinking and bullfighting”!
The Mandarin Barber
2/F, 5 Connaught Road, Central
(852) 2825 4088
Not just our favourite spot for amazing pastries, The Mandarin Oriental actually has a traditional barbershop tucked on its second floor. Without a doubt, this barbershop is one of luxury. A team with decades of experience, an array of services from a simple shave to a wax, facials and Shanghainese pedicures, and even a private VIP room for your relaxation… Indeed, this is nothing less than a private gentleman’s club!
18 Cochrane Street, Central
(852) 2850 7686
You might pass by The Strand on your way up and down the mid-levels escalators already, but you might not know that not only do they cater to the ladies and bride-to-bes, they also have a full menu for the gentlemen! If you feel the need to get pampered from head to toe, then why not book yourself in for the Godfather – with an hour body message, half an hour of facial plus an eye treatment… it’s an offer you can’t refuse!
