It’s finally a 4-day loooong weekend! If you’re looking for some fun and free things to do, we’ve got you covered. All you need to pack is a sense of wonder, a sandwich and your octopus card for public transport!
From 25-26th March (Friday – Saturday), adults ride the MTR and only have to pay child’s fare. Everyone else pays $1HKD per trip. Yay, public transport! Make sure you pay with Octopus to be eligible for this offer. T&C here.
1) Go outdoors
The weather’s looking good on Sunday, so why not pack a picnic and spend some time in the sun? West Kowloon Cultural District’s Freespace Happening is coming to an end this season, but the last one is happening this Sunday. There’ll be live music, an appearance from Hong Kong Dog Rescue, a tree tour and more – so don’t forget your animal friend and a couple of ciders.
27th March, 2-7pm, Nursery Park, West Kowloon Cultural District
2) Gallery hopping
It is art week after all, so there are plenty of free exhibitions happening around town. Here are a few faves off the top of our heads: Tracy Emin at White Cube, Shen Wei at Asia Society, and Vhils at Central Ferry Pier 4.
3) Get cultured
If you’re looking to spend some time indoors, head to Hong Kong Arts Centre for their Open House on Friday and Saturday. Apart from art pieces on display, there’ll also be live dance and music performances, workshops, talks, guided tours and more. Best part? It’s all free. YAY!
25-26th March, Hong Kong Arts Centre, 2 Harbour Road, Wan Chai
4) Get behind the lens
There may not be Chai Wan Mei this year, but there’s Chai Wan Day. Hosted by Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers, it’s going to a day filled to brim with photography talks, workshops and live shooting sessions. Again, everything is FREE to attend! Info in mostly Chinese & a bit of English here.
25-26th March, Chai Wan Industrial City Phase 1, 66 Wing Tai Road, Chai Wan
5) Head in the hub
Dubbed as a hidden artist hub by CNN, Wanchai’s Foo Tak Building has a lot to offer. For their Open Days this weekend, there’ll be open studios, screenings, talks about literature/society/green living, and more. Head on in and explore! Info here.
25-27th March, 14/F, Foo Tak Building, 365-367 Hennessey Road, Wan Chai
6) See the mountains
This weekend, why not ride the train all the way to Tung Chung and head on up to the cable cars? If you’re a HK resident, you can buy an Adult ticket, and your little one rides for $1HKD only. Alternatively, you can also explore the islands like Tai O around the area.
Ngong Ping 360’s offer available till 15th May, more info here
BONUS: Get your drink on
Want to dance your Saturday night away? Head on over to Zafran for free entry AND two hours of free-flow Sangria. There'll be live music performance and plenty of space on the dancefloor, so reserve your space on the guest list right now!
