Looking for a cafe that allows you to sit back, relax and enjoy delicious food? Yumemiya, with their innovative fusion between Japanese and Western cuisine and wide variety of look-good-taste-good cakes, is definitely at the top of my recommendation list. Inspired by the Kamakura teahouse, the restaurant strives to be a haven of comfort for guests to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. In celebration to the newly opened branch at iSquare, Tsim Sha Tsui, the cafe introduces new dishes centred around the theme of Spring to its menu.
Yumemiya, being well aware of the trend to eating a healthy diet, introduces a series of breezily delightful appetizers. The Sweet Corn and Japanese Egg Salad (HK$38) is a must-try. Yes, it's a simple salad with basic ingredients. But Yumemiya made sure to use the freshest ingredients, and that makes all the difference. To further add in a flare of fun, it is served in a Instagram-savvy mason jar. Eaters get to add in their desired amount of salad dressing, and mix their own salad with a spatula in a rustic wooden bowl. Bite into the juicy lettuce and the plump cherry tomatoes, as the copious sweet corn adds to the perfect symphony of the Japanese egg laced with salad dressing. Who says simple and healthy can't also be utmost delicious?
Another appetizer you won't want to miss is the Cheese Tofu in Almond Honey Sauce Served with Garlic Bread (HK$30). Do not underestimate this petite square of tofu so artfully placed in the center of the bowl lined with pieces of garlic bread. The dash of honey is the first thing that greets your tongue, followed by the rich taste of cream cheese as the silky tofu melts away in your mouth. Every spoonful of Cheese Tofu is like a taste of heaven. This delicacy is the creative result of Yumemiya's main chef, who by mixing Japanese soymilk with cream cheese made this a French-Japanese fusion dish. A friendly reminder-- only a limited amount of Cheese Tofu is made daily, so don't dawdle for too long in making your order.
If you are craving something that fun and crispy, you'll love the Fries with Sakura Shrimp Tartar Sauce (HK$38). At first glance, it looks nothing more than a plate common twisted fries, but the magic is in the sauce. The savoury Sakura Shrimp Tartar with a slight sour aftertaste works goes seamlessly with the crispy fries, very enjoyable snack that'll open up your appetite instead of fill you up.
As for the main course, there are three interesting options where the ever-popular Japanese udon is prepared in western style, the Udon in Neapolitan Style with Egg ($50) is one of them. The Yumemiya's special udon fashioned to be flatter and thinner than your normal udon can easily pass as western pasta, but being smoother and more absorbent than your everyday spaghetti, the noodle easily soaks up the mouth-watering Neapolitan sauce. The chef cleverly covers the black iron pan with a thin layer of egg so that the aroma further enriches the taste of the udon.
Being a chain under Italian Tomato, it'd be a sin to leave the cafe without trying one of their cakes. The Matcha Sakura Cake ($32) is one of this season's hits. It is like an exquisite art piece, comprising of four layers of green Matcha cake, separated by a thick lining of pink Sakura-flavoured fresh cream. It's all topped by Matcha cream, dusted with a combination of Match powder, Sakura powder and Macha chocolate powder. You'd treasure each bite of this creamy combination of aromatic Matcha tea and the slightly savoury Sakura cream.
Just like the humble Japanese teahouse of the restaurant's inspiration, the new dishes are simple yet intricately crafted. The newly opened iSquare shop has a brand new take the concept of a hidden away hut by choosing the simple whites and light browns of natural wood in the main decor, contrasting to the standard dark browns table and chairs found within the other Yumemiya branches. This change makes for a brighter space that still emanates the lively tranquillity mirroring the season of Spring. Visit the iSquare Yumemiya and be the first to try out their newest Spring menu.
