Anyone who has lived or studied in UK or Ireland for a while will miss the pubs and the pub food as they’re not easy to find in Hong Kong. McSorley’s Ale House has been a lot of people’s favourite for years and it was our big loss when they decided to move out of Soho a few years ago but the joyful news is that it is back to Soho and I was lucky enough to have a taste of their menu last week.
The traditional menu includes appetizer Samosas with Homemade Tamarind & Mint Sauce, and Curry Chips – tripled cooked and pair with Indian Masala Gravy which is quite mild but full of flavours. Then we tried the Shepherd Pie which I describe “the ultimate comfort food”, the portion of potato is less in here and also topped with cheese which is even more satisfying. Another pub signature – Corned Beef Sandwich - think Guinness Caramelized Onions, Smoked Bacon & Raclette Cheese.
For the drink menu, McSorley’s Ale House will never disappoint you with large range from wines, spirits and beers including a classic pint of Guiness or its own imported McSorley’s Ale. Also available are eight different craft beers from New Zealand, UK, Australia, Germany and Spain. The whiskey menu is exceptional with more than 40 selection consists of 3 ryes, 5 bourbons, 7 malts, 13 Irish Whiskeys and 20 classic and rare single malts. 6 of these bottles are limited independent bottles making the McSorley’s Irish selection the most of its kind in Hong Kong.
