On show at the Ben Brown Fine Arts gallery from the 27th of November 2013 to the 15th of February 2014; the Expression:  A Philosophical Portrait of Humankind exhibition contains a collection of works which depicts the theme of portraiture in one way or another.

With works by artists such as Max Beckmann, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, Lara Favaretto and John Bock just to name a few; the show gives audiences a lot of room for imagination in discussing about the defining ideas for making a piece of artwork categorized as a piece of portraiture.

With philosophical ideas, photographic portrayals, sculptures, and varied materials used; audiences are being reflected upon and included within as an involved component of the artwork.  Works like Ai Weiwei's Fairytale, Vik Muniz's Self-Portrait (Fall), Vital's sculpture and Thomas Struth’s multiple portraits are all very interesting pieces included in the show.  Questions about the gaze, the unseen, the relationship between objects and humans are constantly being raised throughout the exhibition; making it an intriguing and engaging show to see.
