The new Netflix series GLOW (it stands for “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”) which is inspired by a real TV show aired in 80s has been stirring conversation and has already confirmed to renew Season 2. If you wondering what’s the hype or haven’t started to binge-watch it, here are the reasons why you should put it on your list.
1) If you are fan of OINTB
If you found familiar names on the credit roll, that’s probably because you’ve seen them on Orange is the New Black before! Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black) and Tara Herrmann (Orange is the New Black) once again are co-producers of the show, and co-creators Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black), who will serve as showrunners. In short, if you’re into OINTB’s dark humor then you won’t be disappointed with Glow.
2) It’s bite-size comedy
Sometimes I hesitate to start to watch a show because I know it will be so addictive and my whole weekend is gone already when I realized that but Glow’s each episode only last 30 minutes and it’s perfect time-killer when you’re waiting for your friend or commuting.
3) Inspiration of sisterhood and self-exploring
Even though it’s a comedy, the show also reflects what challenges women face back in not a long time ago and remind us how the society evolved on women’s right and stereotypes in the past few decades but more importantly, the strength and courage that these ladies found in each other is truly inspiring and warm-hearted .
Moreover, the identity crisis such as Ruth (Alison Brie) struggling to find her character’s features or Sheila the She-Wolf (Gayle Rankin) ‘s fear of people seeing her without her costume and makeup is utterly relatable no matter your gender or age.
4) If you like 80’s vibe
Like Stranger Things, the story is set in 80’s so you can expect glamorous costumes, big hair, neon colours and of course 80’s music. The golden era of party never gets old.
5) Alison Brie!
The Community star has already proven her comedian talent but her performance in Glow is beyond hilarious and shows her capability of portraying more complex character – she managed to turn a trying-to-hard actress, a disloyal friend and a not so likable character in general into a likable character. Her physical training for wrestler role and makeup also make her unrecognizable in the show too!
You go, girl!
